                           README for slrnconf 0.8.3
                          ---------------------------

Slrnconf is a graphical configuration utility for the newsreader SLRN [1]. Its
intention is to make the hairy configuration of SLRN a bit easier.

Slrnconf will try to read your ~/.slrnrc at startup. If you're using a
different file, open it via File -> Open.

After your settings were read they are displayed and you can start editing
them.

If you don't know what a specific item does just press the "?"-button in the
right of the concerned item and you'll get verbose information.

When you're done with editing, go to File -> Save to save the settings to the
file you opened at the beginning. To save to a different file go to
File -> Save As and choose a file name that fits your needs.

There are no command line switches.

If you encounter any bugs or typos or if you have suggestions or critics,
please feel free to contact me!

                                     Note
                                    ------

IMPORTANT: Since I can't guarantee that slrnconf is free of bugs, please make a
backup copy of your existing ~/.slrnrc.

Slrnconf won't keep comments or the layout when overwriting an rc-file; but if
you already have a fixed layout with comments and such you most probably don't
need slrnconf.

                                    Thanks
                                   --------

Thanks goes to Thomas Schultz and Matthias Friedrich for _The slrn reference
manual_ [2] and to the people in the newsgroups de.comp.lang.perl.misc,
comp.lang.perl.tk, and de.comm.software.newsreader who helped me with various
problems I encountered when developing slrnconf.
